The Hot Sardines are a hot jazz band with a very distinctive sound, out of New York City. Think wartime Paris via New Orleans or the other way around. The Hot Sardines is steeped in hot jazz, salty stride piano, and the kind of music Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt and Fats Waller used to make: Straight-up, foot-stomping jazz. (Literally – the band includes a tap dancer). They manage to invoke the sounds of a near-century ago and stay resolutely in step with the current age.
The Hot Sardines’ second album, “French Fries and Champaign” features a track with Emmy Award winner Alan Cumming on the song “When I Get Low, I Get High.” The band has been the house band for the last four Turner Classic Movies Cruises. In 201, the band played t the Montreal Jazz Festival and with the Boston Pops Orchestra.
