Bring the entire family to see the mystical show spectacular Shen Yun at Governors State University February 7-8, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Inn Suites at Midway!
Shen Yun (the phrase translates to “the beauty of divine beings dancing) presents 5,000 years of classical Chinese music and dance. The four Shen Yun troupes plus orchestras were founded in New York City in 2006 and have gone on to fame and admiration around the world. However, the troupe has never performed in China.
Classical Chinese dance has evolved over thousands of years. The art contains elements of acrobatic and tumbling techniques and various forms and postures. The accompanying music is played by a Western orchestra that integrates traditional Chinese instruments such as the pipa, suona, dizi, guzhang, and multiple percussion instruments. Operatic singers perform spiritual songs. Costumes and props represent different ethnicities within China.
Shen Yun’s repertoire draws from Chinese history and legends. There are three elements: bearing (emotion), form (expressive movement), and technical skills. Bi-lingual emcees take the audience through the various acts. Each presentation is played against a digitally projected backdrop.
