The 1,700 acre Morton Arboretum is one of the great natural treasures of Chicagoland. It has over 220,000 live plants such as trees and tallgrass prairie native plants, as well as plants from around the world. You could hike for a day, or spend a long weekend to take it all in. The Morton Arboretum is very family friendly. It has a four acre children’s garden, a store, and a restaurant and café.
April Events: Library Exhibit: Plant Hunters. Tuesday through Friday 9 am-5 pm. “Tree-rific Trees.” Learn about plants and take home a tree seed for planting. 11am-4 pm weekends. Garden Story Time. Come for a good story and lots of fun. Fridays in April, 11 am. Acorn Express Adventures. Ride the family friendly tram, stop for side hikes, and make a craft. Wednesdays & Fridays (except for April 24) 11 am to 11:45. Edible Gardening. “Small is the New Big.” Learn about gardening in small plots of land. April 11, 9:30-12:30.
Special events for April include: Breakfast With the Easter Bunny, the Ginkgo Café, April 3-4; the Arbor Day 10K run, April 19, live music and beer after run; Dress Like a Tree-Get in Free, also on Arbor Day.
