Bring your family for a celebration of our nation’s national parks at the Inspired by the National Park Quilt Exhibition July 1-3 at the Plum Creek Nature Center in Beecher and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Inn & Suites Midway Hotel!
The Inspired by the National Park Quilt Exhibition at Plum Creek Nature Center will feature 39 quilts made by fabric artists, which depict three nature scenes for each of 13 national parks. Visitors can view the entire 177 quilts for all the national parks by taking a tour of several nature centers in the district. Each national park is represented by one nature scene and two specific things native to that particular park such as wild animals and plants. Kids and parents will be able to meet guest quilt makers and design and make their own quilt squares! Plum Creek Nature Center also has hiking trails and lakes to explore.
The quilts feature landscapes, flora and fauna, from Acadia in Maine to American Samoa and points in between. Some of these artists are members of Quilters Unlimited; other artists reside is other states and countries. Some are internationally known, others are talented novices. All of the artists believe firmly in the concept: the national parks are America’s best idea. You can see examples from the entire quilt collection online at http://www.npscentennialquilts.com/.
