Glenn Miller Orchestra Senior Matinee Concert

Big Band lovers can get their groove on at the special Glenn Miller Orchestra matinee concert at the Nathan Manilow Theatre February 9, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Inn Suites Midway Hotel!

The present Glenn Miller Orchestra has been around for decades, starting in 1956 with newer musicians taking over for legendary ones and playing on! The group is famous for its signature big band sound, emulating the original charts of one of the swing era’s most popular music groups.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra was a swing/jazz big band that started in 1938. What made its sound unique was its use of clarinet and tenor saxophone playing the melodies, producing a more mellow sound than that of the trumpet-heavy bands of the day. The orchestra became a mainstay band of live radio, introducing their music to a nation-wide audience.

The Glenn Miller Orchestra had a record seventy Top Ten singles and twenty-three Number One records in just four years. Its recordings of “In the Mood” and “Moonlight Serenade” became classic recordings of the time.

The Nathan Manilow Theatre at Freedom Hall is located at 410 Lakewood Boulevard in Park Forest. For tickets, call 708) 747-0580 or go online to www.freedomhall.org and follow the prompts. Note: This is a special Senior Matinee at 11 a.m.
