Little Calumet River Canoeing

Celebrate spring by paddling your own canoe (or renting one) and riding downstream with your family on the Little Calumet River Canoe Trip April 4, and stay at the nearby and affordable Best Western Inn Suites Hotel!

Chicagoland has many canoe friendly streams which connect forest preserve systems. On the Little Calumet River, you can expect to see wildlife, especially many species of bird including Baltimore orioles, tanagers, mergansers, and goldeneye ducks, and deer and river animals such as muskrats and turtles. You will be paddling through an urban environment, but the stream tricks you into thinking you’re in a rural setting.

Your Little Calumet River Canoe Trip starts at Beaubien Woods Forest preserve, 13400 South Doty Avenue in Chicago, near I-94. Beaubien Wood Forest Preserve is a woodlands, wetlands, prairie set on Flathead Lake and providing access to the Little Calumet. The float trip takes you to Whistler Woods, where you will be taken back to your cars.

Bike and hike friendly Beaubien Woods Forest Preserve is located near the historic Pullman neighborhood on the southwest side of Chicago. Enjoy a side car trip there.
