Shemekia Coleman is the daughter of Texas electric blues musician Johnny Coleman. She first appeared at the famous Cotton Club at the age of ten. She joined her father on tour at when she was sixteen. Her debut album for Alligator Records, “Turn the Heat Up,” led to a tour of blues music venues in Europe and the United States. Shemekia Coleman’s next album, “Wicked,” earned her three Blues Music Awards. She won the Rising Star – Blues Artist from Down Beat Magazine.

At the 2011 Chicago Blues Festival, Shemekia Coleman was officially designated “Queen of the Blues” by Cookie Taylor, daughter of blues legend Koko Taylor. Her 2015 album, “Outskirts of Love” reached number six on the Billboard charts. She has been the opening act for the Rolling Stones and appeared with such music luminaries as Buddy Guy, B.B. King, and Eric Clapton.
